Importance of mining

Mining in Peru is one of the country's most important industries. In fact, between 2010 and 2023, the percentage of mining exports represented more than ** percent of the total value, reaching almost ** percent during the last year. Likewise, it is one of the sectors that contributes the most jobs to the country, with figures exceeding ** direct jobs in mining activities. The Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE) indicates that for every direct job in the sector, another **** jobs are indirectly generated in the rest of the economy.

Investments in mining

Although there have been better times regarding investments in the sector and in the last two years lower figures have been recorded as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of mining investments again exceeded *** billion U.S. dollars in 2023. Among the companies that invest the most in mining exploration are Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A and Compañía de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A., with investments exceeding ** million U.S. dollars.
