The digital payments market is led by transactions made by consumers and includes payments for products and services made over the internet, as well as mobile payments at points of sale through smartphone applications. Transactions between businesses, online bank transfers not related to products or services purchased over the internet, and payment transactions at point-of-sale terminals using mobile card readers are not included in the analysis.
The digitization of payment systems has gained relevance worldwide in the last decade. In Mexico, the number of digital payment users is expected to continue increasing in the coming years. According to a survey conducted in the Latin American country in 2026, the largest number of users of these financial services was found in the group of respondents aged between 55 and 64 years.
