In January 2019, the United States announced an oil embargo on Venezuela due to tensions between the governments of Donald Trump and Nicolás Maduro. This explains why the value of Venezuelan crude oil or bituminous mineral exports to the North American giant in 2019 was about ** percent of the exports recorded the previous year.
