Consumption of milk alternatives in Latin America by country 2018-2028
In the last five years, the consumption of alternative beverages to cow's milk has experienced steady growth in Latin America. This is due to a growing concern about climate change and the increase in the percent of the population that identifies as vegan, among other reasons. Thus, around *** million kilograms of plant-based beverages were consumed in Brazil in 2022, making it the leading country in the region for the consumption of alternative milks, followed by Mexico. However, this position seems likely to change in the coming years, specifically in 2026. It is estimated that by that year, the Mexican nation will surpass the South American state by about four kilograms; a difference expected to widen even more in the following two years. It is worth noting that, in general, projections indicate that the increase in the consumption of milk substitutes recorded so far will not stop here, as it is expected that by 2028, the total consumption of this type of product, considering the selected countries, will collectively exceed *** million kilograms.
