The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks CD4 cells in the body, which eventually develops into Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). This means the body's immune system no longer works effectively, and this leaves the infected person susceptible to life-threatening illnesses such tuberculosis and cancer.
