Comparatively, ** percent of the surveyed customers said that they regularly seek locally produced non-food items.

Grocery stores in the UAE, represent a major share of the retail market and contribute significantly to its growth. The retail value of grocery retailers in the country reached approximately **** billion U.S. dollars in 2022. When it comes to grocery retail preferences, consumers place the most importance on value for money and a wide product range. Customers in the UAE also indicated an interest in discount grocery retailers, with almost half of the surveyed individuals saying they would be interested in such a store.

Discount chains and e-grocery growth in the UAE

 The retail value of discount stores has steadily increased over the years. The share of customers willing to shop at Aldi and Lidl if available in the UAE was high, at about ** percent for those who were willing to shop regularly or occasionally, according to a survey from 2024. Following the pandemic, online shopping for groceries has seen a considerable increase in the UAE. This is reflected in the revenue of the grocery delivery segment, which has seen significant growth.
