In the first seven months of 2024, Chinese chip companies imported almost *** billion yuan-worth of machines for semiconductor device or integrated chip manufacturing. Overall, the Chinese semiconductor industry imported around *** billion yuan in machinery but exported only around **** billion U.S. dollars in semiconductor equipment. It illustrated that despite increased efforts from the Chinese government to build a domestic chip industry, companies still heavily relied on imported equipment. While the country has made significant improvements in manufacturing capabilities, it still lags in the semiconductor equipment domain.
