*Special permanent certificates are issued for the following individuals:
who lost Japanese nationality at the time of the effectuation of the Treaty of Peace with Japan but has been residing in Japan since before September 2, 1945.
who were born in Japan as their lineal descendants and have continued to reside in Japan. They are permitted to reside permanently in Japan as special permanent residents pursuant to the provisions of the Special Act on Immigration Control.
**Long-term residents are those who are authorized to reside in Japan with a period of stay designated by the Minister of Justice in consideration of special circumstances, such as refugees accepted for third-country re-settlement, Japanese descent, etc.
Except for the special permanent residents, figures are counts of foreign national residents with medium to long-term residence permits as defined by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
