A meta analysis aimed to explore the efficacy of antidepressants to treat patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) when compared to a placebo, found that all antidepressants were more effective than placebos for these patients. Specifically, Amitriptyline, often sold under the brand name Elavil, had the highest efficacy. Conversely, Fluoxetine, sold under the name Prozac, had *** of the lower efficacy levels among the antidepressants in analysis.
