The Germany Bundestag passed a law for the controlled release of cannabis in February 2024, legalizing possession and cultivation for adults from April 1, 2024, with several conditions.
Public opinion in Germany was mixed, with over half opposing the partial legalization. The opposition was even slightly higher in East Germany, where ** percent disagreed with the law. Men appeared to be slightly more supportive than women, although still, more than half of men disagreed.
Attitudes toward cannabis legalization have shifted significantly in recent years. Almost ** percent of Germans were against cannabis legalization in 2014, but this proportion has decreased significantly to date.
