*The target group was private households in Japan, regardless of automobile ownership. In automobile-owning households, the main driver of the vehicle bought most recently had to respond. In the other ones, the person in the center of the household economy had to respond. Households were randomly selected in a two-step process, first determining 300 survey points reflecting regional population sizes, then conducting random walks from each point.

According to a survey conducted between August to October 2023 in Japan, the most commonly cited reason to consider purchasing a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) was that it can be refueled at a gasoline stand, mentioned by ** percent of respondents. The fact that hybrid electric vehicles can run purely on gasoline was another popular reason.
