The source adds the following information: 'The provisions of the Danish Criminal Code regarding sexual offences went through essential amendments taking effect from 1 July 2013. The amendments resulted in e.g. more categories of sexual offences than previously being placed under the provisions about rape (section 216)'.
As a result, numbers for this category are only reported since 2013.

The number of reported cases of sexual offenses in Denmark increased gradually since the current way of registering sexual offenses began in 2013. Close to 9,800 sexual offenses were reported in 2023, compared to 2,500 in 2013. An increase in the reported number of cases does not necessarily mean an increase in the actual number of cases, but could reflect changed attitudes towards reporting sexual crimes.
