As of March 2024, the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is estimated to have almost *** million people covered under the National Food Security Act. It was followed by Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal which also had a high share of population covered under the Act. NFSA guarantees subsidized or free food grains to poorer households and covers over *** million people across the country.
