Government spending on fuel subsidy in India was estimated to be over *** billion Indian rupees in the financial year 2024, a drastic increase from previous year's figures. One of the reasons for the hike in fuel subsidy is considered to be the additional money granted to LPG cylinder subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries for ensuring clean cooking fuel to rural and deprived households.
