Government support for fossil fuels in the form of subsidies decreased significantly between 2022 and 2023, after reaching a decade-high. Nearly 343.5 billion U.S. dollars were spent on support measures for natural gas in 2023. Overall, petroleum tended to account for the largest share of such subsidies.
