*19,936 elementary schools, 10,076 junior high schools, 151 integrated compulsory education schools, 4,856 high schools, 56 secondary schools and 1,160 special needs schools.
Correspondence high schools are not included in the survey.
In this survey, children with medical needs are defined as those who, based on diagnosis documents from medical specialists regarding illness or disabilities, or based on the conditions of disabilities shown in the 鈥淗andbook for educational support for children with disabilities鈥 distributed by MEXT, are absent for more than 30 days per year. This includes days when they are unable to attend the enrolled class due to visiting hospitals, staying at home, or receiving remote lessons using ICT devices by teachers.聽
