The total number of women directors in Indian corporate boardrooms of leading Indian companies increased from *** in 2021 to *** in 2022. However, most of these were independent directors. In 2022, there were *** independent woman directors as compared to ** other women directors or women executives graduating to Board positions. The Securities and Exchange Board of India mandates at least one independent woman director for the top 500 listed entities, however there is no so such condition for women executive directors.
