As of 2022, an ** percent share of the tantalum in Nokia's supply chain was from suppliers that had achieved conflict-free status. Only ** percent of Nokia's suppliers of tantalum traced the conflict status of all of the smelters it came from at that time. Tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold, also referred to as *** for short, are commonly used in mobile phones, cars, and jewelry. The *** minerals are considered to be conflict minerals because the production of them in certain countries is associated with funding armed conflict, hence the need for conflict-free certification in supply chains such as Nokia's.
