As of 2026, there were 368 data centers in China, the most of any country or territory in the Asia-Pacific region. China had the fourth-highest number of data centers worldwide.
China鈥檚 data center market has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by strong demand for cloud computing, e-commerce, and digital services, as well as the growing importance of artificial intelligence. Government initiatives such as the 鈥淓astern Data, Western Computing鈥 project have also supported the development of large-scale data center clusters, particularly in inland regions with access to cheaper energy. Major domestic technology companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and Huawei, continue to invest heavily in infrastructure to support their cloud and AI ambitions.
