Production quantities are combined totals of estimated silicon content for ferrosilicon and silicon metal. For Bhutan, India, and Malaysia, values refer to the silicon content of ferrosilicon only. The value for Australia refers to silicon content of silicon metal.Â
In 2023, China's silicon production volume was estimated at *** million metric tons, by far the largest production volume in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. That year, the total global production of silicon amounted to an estimated **** million metric tons. Silicon is particularly important due to its semiconducting properties, with silicon wavers used in the production of integrated circuits that can be found in electronic devices such as smartphones and computers.
