Respondents were asked to name the news podcasts they used most often and could choose up to three podcasts. Between around 200 and 700 shows were mentioned in each country. The definition of news and current affairs podcasts was left open to respondents and therefore some popular shows may have been missed.
A survey on news consumption held in early 2023 in the United States asked respondents about news podcasts they used most often, with the top result being "The Daily", produced by the New York Times. At ** minutes long on average, this was one of the shorter podcasts in the ranking, with the second most-named podcast by respondents being "Joe Rogan Experience", which lasted around hours and ** minutes per episode. The majority of news podcasts most accessed by respondents in the survey had male hosts and fell into the 'extended chat' category, i.e. informal, personality-led discussions.
