Since the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018, the most significant fine issued in Austria was against the Austrian Post. The imposed fine amounted to 16 million euros in October 2019. For various violations of GDPR, the company Rewe International received an eight-million-euro-fine in January 2022, making it the third-highest penalty issued by the Austrian privacy regulator.
