As of January 2025, Germany had the longest proposed hydrogen transmission pipeline infrastructure in Europe, at over kilometers. In comparison, Spain is planning to add kilometers worth of hydrogen pipelines. Gaseous hydrogen, similar to natural gas today, can be transported via pipeline. However, several challenges arise with blending hydrogen into the gas network, such an increased susceptibility to corrosion.
