Eastern Cape had the largest share of women in the total population in South Africa. In 2022, 52.7 percent of the people in the province were women. Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal followed closely, with a share of 52.5 and 52.1 percent, respectively.
In absolute terms, Gauteng had the largest number of women residing there, at 8.1 million.
