Through the Lend-Lease Act, the United States provided its Allies with over ** billion U.S. dollars worth of aid, and almost ** billion of this was in the form of military shipments provided by the U.S. War Department. The majority of this ** billion was in the form of ground material, which included combat vehicles, weapons, and ammunition, as well as non-combat equipment (such as medical, railway, or production equipment), however, approximately *** billion was made up of American-made aircraft and aeronautical material. Military shipments peaked from mid-1943 to mid-1944, in the year before the Invasion of Normandy, where over eight billion dollars worth of equipment and supplies was sent to the Allied powers, with the UK receiving the bulk of these shipments.
