Since 1975, the Bretagne region has been recording fewer and fewer marriages. There were more than 20,000 that year, compared to about half that number four decades later. There was also a significant drop in the number of marriages celebrated between 2019 and 2020 (about 3,000 fewer), largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This drop could actually be observed in the entire country.
