As of 2020, South Caroline and Alabama were the U.S. states with the most housing units that had heat pumps installed. North Carolina was not far behind, with ** percent of homes using central heat pumps. Heat pumping systems are especially common in Southern States, as most households there are all-electric and don't have gas connections.
