Severe drought in the Western United States has caused water levels on the Colorado River to drop. The Colorado River system as a whole was at ** percent of its peak capacity as of January 29, 2023. The previous year saw the Colorado river system content at ** percent. The two largest reservoirs in the United States - Lake Mead and Lake Powell - were well below their full capacities in early 2023.
