As of February 2023, there were *** public pension funds (PPFs) in North America, more than in any other region. Europe followed in second place with a total of ** PPFs. PPFs are retirement savings funds for citizens employed by the state. Part of an employees salary is allocated to the PPF with an independent guarantee from underlying asset performance. Some of the asset classes typically allocated by PPFs are public equity, fixed income and treasury, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and hedge funds.
