Changes in emergency department visits because of health issues due to opioids and stimulants (excluding cocaine) during the outbreak of COVID-19 differed depending on the substance type and on the month in analysis. The biggest variation was observed for ED visits related to the consumption of opioids in the month of September, where there was a ** percent increase. This graph shows the percentage change in the number of people who visited the emergency department in Canada because of opioids or stimulants, in the period from March to September 2019 and March to September 2020, by month.
