As of December 2020, **** percent of pre-trial detainees from robbery in Mexico were not sentenced, which means that less than a fourth of people in jail for robbery had been found guilty in court. It had an ever higher share of unsentenced prisoners for drug trafficking, with **** percent of people being in preventive detention without charge.
The share of preventive detainees for drug dealing or robbery who were imprisoned without charge showed an increasing trend throuhout 2019 and 2020. The case of drug traffucking is particularly outstanding: between January 2019 and December 2020, the share of individuals deprived of liberty that had not been sentenced and were awaiting for trial grew **** percentage points.
