The revenue of Williamson Diamond Limited (WDL), which operates in the Mwadui kimberlite pipes in Tanzania, decreased by some ** percent in the financial year 2021. The company, subsidiary of the mining group Petra Diamonds, registered revenue of *** million U.S. dollars in FY 2021, against **** million U.S. dollars in FY 2020. The decrease was related to an interruption in operations, as the mine was placed on care and maintenance to preserve its liquidity from till the second half of 2021. In operation since 1940, Williamson is the major diamond mine in Tanzania and one of the largest diamond mines in Africa. The operator WDL is owned by both the mining group Petra Diamonds, which holds ** percent of the operations, and the Government of Tanzania, which has ** percent ownership.
