The data for each quarter came from previous editions of the same publication.
The contractors contacted for these surveys do projects in the commercial and institutional sectors of the U.S. (including multifamily residential). The number of contractors that responded to the survey has suffered slight variations from quarter to quarter, ranging from a minimum of 207 contractors in each survey to a maximum of 215. In all cases, their demographics had a similar distribution regarding the type and size of the company, their job function, and the location.

Expected revenue change in commercial construction in the U.S. 2019-2021, by quarter
The biggest change in the revenue expectations of contractors in the commercial construction sector of the United States happened between the first and second quarter of 2020. During this period, the number of respondents expecting an increase of revenue dropped from ** to ** percent, and the number of contractors expecting it to decrease rose from *** to ** percent. Afterwards, there was a gradual improvement of the contractors’ revenue expectations for the next ** months. However, the expectations have worsened slightly in the last *** quarters of 2021.
