In 2019, the number of children in the compulsory school age group in South Asia amounted to over *** million, indicating an increase of approximately ten million since 2011. The East Asia and Pacific region also recorded an increase of the compulsory school-age population in the same time period, albeit on a smaller scale, growing by a little over million.
