The figures from 2008 onwards for criminal justice system are based on the joint Eurostat-UNODC data collection. It is available at country level for European Union Member States, EFTA countries, EU Candidate countries, and EU Potential Candidates.
In Iceland, the number of prosecutions increased rapidly from 2011 to 2013, before decreasing until 2017, and increasing again until 2019. In 2021, the number fell to 2,200. This means that a little less than half of the 5,900 crime suspects in Iceland were prosecuted in 2021.
