According to most recent available data, percent of people in the age group of 15-24 years in Ethiopia were able to read and write a simple statement in 2017. Among females, the literacy rate was percent, while males that could read and write were slightly higher, at percent. For both gender, there was a drastic improvement from the figures in 2005. It is also worth noting that the gender gap diminished along the period.
