In 2018, the literacy rate of people aged 15 years and older in Algeria corresponded to approximately 81 percent of the total adult population. In the same year, adult women's literacy rate was around 75 percent, which was under the average. A large difference of about 12 percent could be observed between genders, with 87.42 percent of adult men able to read and write.
