Songo Songo is the most productive natural gas field in Tanzania. As of 2019, **** billion cubic feet of gas were extracted in the plant located on and offshore the namesake island, around ** kilometers away from the mainland. In the same period, **** billion cubic feet of gas were produced in Mnazi Bay field, in the country's south. The plant registered the first fall in output level. Overall, natural gas production in Tanzania has strongly increased since 2004.
