Semi-structured interviews were used, with 210 experts and current and former policymakers in 15 territories including the US, the UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, Israel, Iran, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to a survey on the steps to enable a security framework in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2020, ** percent of respondents agreed that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would be the most effective security framework model in the MENA region. ** percent of respondents agreed that a regional security framework in the MENA region would be beneficial to the region.
