As of April 2020, the Government of India scheduled investments worth *** trillion U.S. dollars into its National Infrastructure pipeline (NIP) scheme from financial year 2020 to 2025. Around *** billion dollars were scheduled for the roads segment and another *** billion dollars for urban infrastructure.
The NIP was initiated in 2019 and is one of the biggest governmental programs in Indian history. It was scheduled that the central government and the state governments bear around ** percent of the expenses each. The remaining ** percent should be attracted from private investors.
In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, infrastructure investments were carrying the hopes for economic recovery.
