More than 8.5 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated in the United States contained LDPE/LLDPE materials in 2018. This was the most abundant plastic resin found in the U.S. MSW stream that year. The second most abundant resin was PP (polypropylene). In total, plastic waste generation in the U.S. totaled 35.7 million tons in 2018.
