*The database of surfing professionals likely to be active was elaborated from the national file of the educators of physical activities and sports (EAPS file) of the Ministry of Sports.
Out of a total of 906 professionals thus identified, 700 were contacted by email and invited to answer the online questionnaire.
At the end of the survey phase, which took place from mid-October 2017 to mid-December 2017, 286 surveys were collected, representing 41% of the population contacted and nearly one-third of the professionals identified (32%).

The vast majority of surf instructors taught in 2017 on the beaches of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Indeed, more than ** percent of instructors reported teaching in this region during the year. Brittany was the second region of France with a little less than ** percent of instructors exercising their activity on this territory. The Mediterranean coast, which is less favorable to waves, only had *** percent of instructors. It should be noted that instructors can be active in several regions during the year.
