The ranking was based on the ecological footprint survey of 200 biggest companies in Russia conducted in fall 2020. The ranking score was assessed by four categories with equal weight of 25 percent: "Harm reduction", "Environmental policy", "Resource use" and "Expert assessment". The score for expert assessment was based on evaluation of the following criteria:
- company reduces harm to the environment;
- company uses natural resources carefully and efficiently;
- company invests in advanced environmental technologies or produces eco-friendly products.
Companies were divided by industries prior to comparison of the first three categories. In the majority of cases, Z-score method was used, comparing deviations from the sample mean, which was taken as 50 points.
