In 2023, India scored 20 out of a possible 35 on limits on internet content. This was a decrease compared to the previous year. Several bans ranging from pornographic and terrorism-related material were implemented by the government in recent years. The latest of these included bans on several Chinese apps. Additionally, more than 55 thousand websites and URLs had been taken down and legal battles raged between social media giants and the government as the latter tried to regulate content on these platforms.
