In 2022, ** percent of the income of securities companies in China was generated from proprietary trading and other investments. This segment previously accounted for the largest share of income since 2017 when it overtook income from brokerage services. Securities companies have been subjected to more stringent regulations for their asset management business whose implementation has to be completed by 2021. As a result, financial institutions were in the process of rectifying or liquidating current investments which explains why the income share from asset management had been decreasing in 2019.
