Heavy episodic drinking (HED) is defined by the source as consuming 60+ gramms of pure alcohol on at least one occasion during the 30 days prior to the survey.
The survey was carried out among residents of the 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries that did not travel abroad since March 15, 2020.

The share of alcohol consumers in Latin America and the Caribbean who experienced heavy episodic drinking in the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic (March to June 2020) decreased in comparison to 2019, according to a survey carried out in the region. This share close to halved for women, going from a prevalence of **** percent in 2019 to **** percent in the period analized in 2020, while for men a decrease of nearly ** percentage points was registered.
