Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is the air pollutant that poses the greatest risk to health globally, affecting more people than any other pollutant (WHO, 2018). Chronic exposure to PM2.5 considerably increases the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in particular (WHO, 2018). For these reasons, population exposure to (outdoor or ambient) PM2.5 has been identified as an OECD Green Growth headline indicator.
Average annual PM2.5 particulate concentration EU/PL standard is 25 ug/m3 (WHO - 10 ug/m3) .

Air pollution (PM2.5) in selected spas in Poland 2019-2020
The lowest air pollution in 2020 was recorded in Poland's health resorts, located by the Baltic Sea. The highest in the south of Poland. However, there was a difference between health resorts located in the Carpathian Mountains, where PM2.5 levels exceed standards, and those in the Sudetes, where the pollution was much lower.
