In 2025, the Southeast was the most populated region in Brazil, according to the estimations. In that year, more than 88 million people lived in the four states of this region: Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The Central-West region, where the country's capital, Brasília, is located, was the least populated region in the South American country in 2025, with only 17 million inhabitants. Throughout the past decade, Brazil's population has grown at slower rates than before.
