According to a survey conducted in May 2020 in Italy, nearly 57 percent of biotech companies in the country were taking part in research and development (R&D) or production activities in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Of the 57 percent active in this effort, 44 percent were operating in the diagnostics segment, while seven percent were taking part in the race for a vaccine.
