Special steel, in contrast, is steel alloyed with other elements like chromium, nickel, molybdenum, or vanadium and has received heat treatment.

In 2024, metal dealers in Japan ordered more ordinary steel products than any other domestic sector, their orders amounting to approximately million metric tons.
